Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC - eg IUD or implant) - IUDs

CONTRACEPTIVE IUD (INTRA-UTERINE DEVICE / COIL) Dr Kilner is able to provide a friendly and personal contraceptive IUD service whereby an IUD (a small plastic device covered with copper) or an IUS (containing hormone rather than copper) is placed in the womb to act as a very effective contraceptive. These devices last for at least 5 years & are an excellent form of long term Contraceptive. The IUS is also very effective in preventing heavy periods. If you would like to know more about this service please feel free to make an appointment with Dr Kilner.

Phlebotomy - Blood Test

We have our own Phlebotomist, Carla Roque, who has a clinic everyday. However, you may be asked by a doctor to have a blood test at a hospital. If so, please go to St Thomas’ Hospital between 8.30 – 6pm. Just turn up with your request form.

Primary care counselling service

Our counsellor works at the practice on Fridays. Referrals can be made via a GP, or in some cases patients may refer themselves for treatment, subject to suitability.

Physiotherapy

What is Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy?

Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy is a specialised are of physiotherapy treating injuries and conditions which affect muscles, joints and soft tissues. We can provide advice and treatment for many problems including back pain, joint conditions such as arthritis and muscle ligament strains. Conditions which can be treated by musculoskeletal physiotherapy include back and knee pain and injuries, such as muscle strains and ligament sprains. 

What to expect when you see a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist? 

A physiotherapist will make a detailed specialist assessment of your problems involving you in your individual care taking a person-centered approach. Treatment may involve movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice to help maximize function and quality of life through focusing on physical, psychological, emotional and social welling.  

What is self referral? 

Self-referral offers you access to a physiotherapist without the need to see your GP first. Self-referral may reduce your wait to access an expert opinion, advice and treatment and puts you in control of your care. 

IF you decide to self-refer to musculoskeletal physiotherapy: 

You can expect… 

  1. Your referral to be reviewed within two days by a specialist physiotherapist 
  2. You will be contacted by telephone or letter with an appointment, which will be within a maximum of six weeks but it is usually sooner
  3. If your problem needs more urgent care, you will be contacted by telephone
Young person's clinic - Under 16's

If you wish to discuss contraception or a sexual health matter, please make an appointment to see the nurse. This service is available to under 16s and is completely confidential. If you have a problem which you are unable to discuss with your parents or guardian, arrangements can be made for you to be seen at the surgery without them. Please explain your situation to the receptionists and they will make arrangements for you.
